South Brother Island in foreground

South Brother Island (foreground) in the East River, an uninhabited island la half mile off the coast of the South Bronx that was protected by The Trust for Public Land. South Brother is an important stop over point for migratory birds. North Brother Island, at the top of the frame, is the more famous brother, having been the site of New York’s worst nautical disaster in history and where “Typhoid Mary” was quarantined.
